About me: what I can offer you

Hi, I'm Sat from the Southport Counselling Service. I look forward to hearing from you if you’d like to work with me.

Counselling
I offer a confidential and trusted space in which you can feel free to express yourself, be heard, and non-judged. I value your uniqueness and believe you have it within you to make the changes you desire.

I offer Person Centred Therapy, CBT, Trauma Therapy, Rewind Therapy, EFT and NLP which can be integrated into your counselling experience. My interests are in bereavement and loss, severe anxiety and depression, panic attacks, trauma and chronic stress. I offer a unique collaborative approach which is indivdual to you.

Supervision
I offer Clinical Supervision for trainees and qualified counsellors.

Change starts by courageously taking the first small step in a new direction ...

Are you feeling stuck, facing a challenging period, struggling to cope or just wanting to understand yourself better? Are you feeling lost, powerless and helpless? You might have experienced a life changing event such as bereavement or divorce and are struggling with knowing how to cope with the future. Are you experiencing stress at work, even feelings of panic? Have you experienced a traumatic event and need to debrief? Together we can help you explore these issues and others in a confidential, safe, quiet and relaxing environment.

The fact that you’re even reading this, looking for support and hoping you can improve things is a big step towards positive change. Sometimes it just takes courage to take that extra step in a new direction.

 About how counselling can help

My foundation of counselling practice is person centred therapy through which I offer you a counselling relationship within which you feel safe enough to explore what you want to bring to the counselling session. With warmth, empathy, humour and respect, I will help you to discover ways of living more resourcefully and authentically.

You might find it helpful to talk things over with someone who is neither a friend nor relative but who will listen to you and help you understand your situation; maybe you need support during a difficult period; perhaps you aren’t even sure what the problem is – you simply have a vague feeling that things are not quite right.

I offer respect and provide a calm space where you can experience complete acceptance and support. I will be genuine and authentic with you which I hope will encourage you to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings with me. My aim is to make our relationship honest and open with good communication where you are safe to explore what you want to bring to counselling.  My hope for you is that counselling can bring opportunities to facilitate personal growth and development, eliminate or mitigate feelings of distress, increase self-esteem and openness to experience and enhance your understanding of yourself. Other benefits include greater congruence, understanding and awareness of self, greater trust in self, healthier relationships, improved self-expression and overall improved mental health.

Availability

A free initial telephone consultation usually takes about 20 minutes and will give you a chance to see how comfortable you feel talking to me. It also gives me a sense of whether or not I can support you.

We will agree to meet for an initial one hour session. During the session contracting and assessments will be made. Each session lasts one hour for individuals or 1.5hrs for couples.

Online or Telephone Counselling Sessions
We will agree to meet in an encrpyted virtual counselling room. I will send you the counselling agreement for working online and instructions of how the process works. Your consent to the terms will be assumed when you enter the counselling session.

For telephone counselling the counselling agreement will be sent via email for your consent. For ongoing work, we will periodically review your progess.  We can arrange sessions to suit your availability as I try to be as flexibile as my timetable allows.

All thoughts and feelings are welcome, and you decide what you want to talk about and what you don't want to talk about.  Most clients find time flies quickly and are often surprised when the session comes to an end.

Clinical Supervision

Fundamental to the provision of safe, ethical and competent counselling, supervision is vital to the practice and development of counsellors. Working with a counselling supervisor ensures you stay grounded, maintain professional and ethical boundaries and are regularly practising self-care. As your supervisor I offer integrative supervision to support your practice.

I have specialist training in the supervision of counsellors working with clients online and by telephone as well as face to face. This means I am uniquely placed to provide you with supervision to meet your blended needs in line with the BACP recommendation that it is 'ethically desirable to receive at least some elements of regular supervision by the same method of communication that is used with clients'.

I am an Integrative Therapist with a special interest in trauma focussed therapy. My core training was based on person centred and cognitive behaviour theories. I have a MSc in Psychology, a certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling, am qualified as a Rewind Therapist.

In addition to supervision, I work as a counsellor in private practice face to face, via video link and by telephone. I work with agencies delivering support for mental health issues, bereavment and trauma issues as well as EAPs and Merseyside Police Force.

My supervision approach is based on the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision and is informed by the Integrative Developmental Model.

I work in a intergrative way, drawing on elements from all my trainings and experience. I will work with you in a flexible, collaborative way, based on your own modality. I aim to offer a supportive, enriching environment in which to provide an overarching pair of eyes to help explore what is happening in your work for your clients and yourself.

As a supervisor, I aim to provide you with a safe, non-judgemental environment that enables us to work together in a structured way, reflecting on your practice and supporting you in your work with clients. Using a Normative, Formative and Restorative approach ensures each session can be both supportive and challenging in a way that is flexible to meet your individual needs.

I work with UK based counsellors only and supervision sessions last 1.5hrs or more often if required.
